Destinations news Volunteers Prepare Trails for ‘Ios Adventure’ Sports Event by GTP editing team 25 April 2018 written by GTP editing team 25 April 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Ahead of the “Ios Adventure” races, scheduled to take place in September on the Cycladic island of Ios, the event’s organizers along with local volunteers and the Alpine Club of Athens recently held a major cleanup operation on selected trails of the destination. The Ios Adventure is part of the Cyclades Trail Cup 2018, a series of trail races that aim to promote the Cycladic Islands as a destination for alternative, cultural and athletic tourism. The event will be held between September 7 and 9, under the auspices of the Ios Municipality, and include two mountain running races of 24 and 14 kilometers each; two swimming races of 1.5 and 3 kilometers each, and mixed races of swimming and mountain running. Trail cleanup Volunteers clean the trails of Ios. The team of volunteers, between April 2 and 8, worked on a trail connecting the Gaitis Museum with the asphalt road, which the runners of the Ios Adventure will cross during the “Ios Trail Race 14km”. Furthermore, an old trail has been found and reopened for the “Ios Trail Rac 24 km”. According to an announcement, the trail was discovered under the guidance of 92-year-old local Yiannis and connects the areas of Agioi Apostoloi and Prophitis Ilias.
