Athens News City Offers Subsidies for Athens Neighborhood Upgrade Projects by GTP editing team 27 April 2018 written by GTP editing team 27 April 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 In efforts to improve the overall standard of living in the urban center, the Athens Municipality is subsidizing neighborhood upgrade and renovation projects. Under its “City Intervention” program and within the POLI² pilot project, the Athens municipality has set aside 6,000 euros to fund fresh ideas that will brighten up the urban setting. The local authority invites city residents to submit their proposals for small-scale projects in the neighborhoods of Athens. A second action under the POLI² program will focus on reviving city trade areas that have been degraded due to the economic crisis. “The savings achieved over the past years are returning to the city’s residents. This said, we invite all Athenians to contribute to shaping the identity of the city and decide for themselves how to make their neighborhood more beautiful, more functional and more sustainable,” said Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis. “At the same time, we are offering incentives to motivate all Athenians to jointly implement actions that will make the city more attractive for residents and visitors,” Kaminis added. Proposals to be taken into consideration should focus on: seating and socializing areas; child-friendly structures; service structures in waiting areas (public transport and school entrances, health centers etc ); green spaces; energy-producing projects; shading, lighting and road projects.
