The Archimedes program, which is running in collaboration with the B & M Theocharakis Foundation, aims to bring students closer to exact sciences through experiential learning and constitutes a tool for educators by introducing them to a new teaching methodology, based on research and collaboration. The program began in April 2017 with seminars for teachers and is now continuing with events for students until May 2018. “Celestyal Cruises is focusing on Greece’s islands, where students do not have the same opportunities in education as children of large urban areas,” the company said in an announcement. According to Celestyal Cruises public relations manager Froso Zaroulea, the program aims to cover the needs of all of the island’s schools for the 2017/18 academic year. It involves more than 1,300 students, teachers and professors of the primary and secondary education (elementary and high school). “Through the company’s Social Responsibility (CSR) program every year we support the local communities of Greece’s islands, aiming to contribute to their development,” Zaroulea said. “We strongly support the Archimedes program, offering the opportunity to even more children to learn more on the magic of exact sciences through new modern educational methods,” she underlined. The program is taking place under the auspices of the Municipality of Samos. Celestyal Cruises is one of the leading cruise lines serving the Greek islands and the eastern Mediterranean. The company operates four mid-sized vessels, each one intimate enough to provide highly-personalized services. Every cruise focuses on all the cultural features of the destination, offering authentic experienceσ at sea and ashore.
