The Makedonia Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki has received the first prize in the Greek Graphic Design & Illustration Awards 2018 for the exceptional innovative design of its logo. Organized by +DESIGN magazine, the awards aim to reward and promote artists and their work in the fields of graphic design, illustration and digital applications. “The award constitutes a great honor for the people and the management of the hotel, as it recognizes their everyday efforts for creation, and connects the hotel with the city’s contemporary history and its people,” the hotel’s management said in an announcement. “It reflects the company’s sensitivity in the continuously evolving sector of design and confirms its philosophy which is based on confidence.” The logo was designed by award-winning graphic designer Dimitris Papazoglou. Photo Source: www.ebge.gr In collaboration with Axel Peemöller, a design consultancy based in New York, the distinctive parallel vertical columns on the building’s side inspired Papazoglou to focus the logo’s concept on the letter “M”. The logo depicts the hotel’s new era, which began after its total makeover. “The new logo… was launched to accompany the reopening of the landmark hotel, aiming to underline its dynamic return and its philosophy,” the hotel’s management said. Makedonia Palace recently celebrated a year of operation since its grand opening in spring 2017. The hotel’s new look has attracted the interest of travelers, leading to a 25 percent increase in overnights compared to the previous year.
