The Acropolis in Athens once again is included among the top 25 landmarks in the world as it ranked 16^th on the 2018 Travelers’ Choice awards for Landmarks list, recently announced by travel planning and booking platform TripAdvisor.

The Acropolis also ranked 10^th on the list of Europe’s top landmarks.

TripAdvisor’s awards this year recognized 759 landmarks across 68 countries and eight regions across the globe. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for landmarks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

“With awe-inspiring temples, poignant memorials and breath-taking examples of architectural innovation, there’s a wide variety of options to inspire those looking for culturally enriching experiences,” said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor.

TripAdvisor’s top five landmarks in the world are the Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia; Plaza de Espana in Seville, Spain;  the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE; St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Italy and Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba in Cordoba, Spain.

In Europe, the top five landmark sites according to TripAdvisor are Plaza de Espana in Seville, Spain; St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Italy; Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba in Cordoba, Spain; Duomo di Milano in Milan, Italy and the Parliament in Budapest, Hungary.

TripAdvisor has also identified highly rated tours and experiences at these award-winning landmarks.
