Greek Aviation Society Conference Explores Future Challenges

The impact of new technologies on aviation, airport infrastructure and cooperation between airlines and airport authorities were the focus of the Hellenic Aviation Society‘s biennial conference held at Athens International Airport (AIA) earlier this month.

Aviation and transport experts and professionals, academics, as well as airline and tourism sector representatives attended the 5th Aviation Conference titled “Air Transport of Today and Tomorrow”. The event opened with the keynote address by AIA Chairman of the Board, Dimitrios Dimitriou.

Speakers included members of the Hellenic Air Force, the defence ministry, Fraport Greece, the University of Thrace, AIA, civil engineers, as well as aviation and space legal experts who covered Airlines, Policy & Strategy – LCCs, airline synergies, code sharing; Aviation Law – Brexit and aviation, EASA regulation on drones; Airports & Infrastructure – privatization, PPPs, invest; Environment & New Technologies – biofuels, new aircraft technology; and General Aviation issues – aviation tourism, seaplanes and seaports.

With regard to Greece, the event examined the recent development in airport infrastructure, the tourism industry’s interaction with airlines and airport authorities via common actions and synergies as well as the environmental impact of aviation due to the rapid increase in international passenger traffic.
