The newly-launched seasonal service to Greece’s most popular island will operate a four-times-weekly service from Doha by an Airbus A320, featuring 12 seats in Business Class and 132 seats in Economy Class, until September 30. A world–renowned cosmopolitan island and a paradise in the heart of the Cyclades, Mykonos is known for its picturesque views and beautiful sandy beaches. “Today’s inaugural flight to popular Mykonos marks further growth and strengthening bonds between the State of Qatar and Greece,” Baker said, adding that the airline is looking forward to further enhancing the relationship and attract business and leisure travelers from around the world. On his part, Fraport Greece CEO Alexander Zinell welcomed Qatar Airways’ new route from Doha to Mykonos. “This new route offered by our partners from Qatar Airways links these two beautiful and diverse worlds, enabling travelers to reach their destination fast and in five-star comfort,” Zinell said. The airport of Mykonos is one of the 14 Greek regional airports that Fraport Greece manages. With the launch of Mykonos, Qatar Airways increased its flights to 58 times a week from Doha’s five-star Hamad International Airport to Greece. The airline has been operating to Athens since June 2005 and in 2015 increased its service to the Greek capital from twice daily to three times daily to meet growing demand. Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of more than 200 aircraft via its hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA) to more than 150 destinations worldwide. Earlier this year, Qatar Airways revealed a host of forthcoming global destinations for 2018-19, in line with its expedited expansion plans, including Tallinn, Estonia; Valletta, Malta; Langkawi, Malaysia; Da Nang, Vietnam; Bodrum and Antalya, Turkey and Málaga, Spain. Qatar Airways currently holds the title of ‘Airline of The Year’ as awarded by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
