Creta Maris’ Kastri Beach Receives Sustainability Award by Costa Nostrum

Creta Maris Beach Resort’s Kastri beach, located in Hersonissos on the island of Crete, has been awarded as one of the best private sustainable beaches in the Mediterranean by the “Costa Nostrum – Sustainable Beaches” program.

Costa Nostrum is a certification standard recognizing the sustainable management and development of beaches in the Mediterranean. The criteria for acquiring the certification include the protection of nature; the promotion of environmental awareness; the preservation and promotion of local culture and traditional products.

The Creta Maris Beach Resort is a member of the Metaxas’ Group of Companies and has been operating since 1975. It includes 680 rooms, suites and bungalows; six restaurants and spacious facilities for outdoor and indoor activities.

The awards ceremony was recently held in the resort’s premises, on the sidelines of the 2018 International Sandy Beaches Symposium, and was attended by 90 scientists and researchers from all over the world.

“We are more than happy to receive the ‘Sustainable Beach of the Mediterranean’ award. Besides offering authentic high-quality hospitality services, which is the core of our philosophy, our interest also focuses on the environment,” said Andreas Metaxas, Chairman and Managing Director of the Metaxas Group of Companies during the awards ceremony.

Creta Maris’ Kastri beach was certified by Costa Nostrum as a sustainable Mediterranean beach in 2017.

“The certification highlights our vision for the Creta Maris beach – the ultimate destination for relaxation in Hersonissos – and our non-negotiable commitment to protect the environment and meet the needs of the local community,” Metaxas added.

The 2018 International Sandy Beaches Symposium was organized by the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture of Crete’s Hellenic Center for Marine Research.
