The Acropolis Museum to Celebrate 9th Birthday

The Acropolis Museum in Athens on Wednesday, June 20, will celebrate its ninth birthday with guided tours and cultural events starting from early in the morning until late at night.

According to an announcement, the exhibition areas and the restaurant will be open from 8 am until midnight and entrance will be free from 8 pm onwards.

On the same day, visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the temporary exhibition “Eleusis. The great mysteries” with the guidance of an archaeologist, and discover the most important artifacts brought to light by the archaeological excavation in Eleusis (or Elefsina), a town and municipality in West Attica, as well as its connection with Athens and the Acropolis.

Among the artifacts presented are a statue of the “Fleeing Persephone” (around 480 BC); the votive relief depicting Demeter and Kore –Persephone (470-450 BC); ceremonial vessels such as kernos, plemochoe and thymiaterion and monuments depicting the leading figures of the great mysteries, Hierophant and Dadouchos.

The 45-minute tours will be held at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm in Greek; at 12.30 pm and 5.30 pm in English.

Furthermore, at 9 pm the Athens Big Band will be at in the Museum’s entrance courtyard to perform renowned jazz songs.
