Glyfada, Attica. “For the fourth consecutive year, we have developed a special infrastructure in order to host our fellow citizens with disabilities… The service, as every year, is provided free of charge,” the Municipality of Glyfada said in an announcement. Running on solar panels, the SEATRAC ramp includes rails with an attached seat that enables people with physical disabilities to enter the water without the help of escorts. The Glyfada municipality has also installed a beach shower; an extra seat for a care attendant; umbrellas and parking spaces for the disabled. “All people, with no exception, should be able to enjoy the sea and sun,” the Glyfada Mayor Giorgos Papanikolaou said. In the summer months of 2016 and 2017, the special ramp of Glyfada proved to be the most visited SEATRAC facility in Greece, according to data collected by the company operating the mechanism. “We hope that our blue-flag awarded beach will remain at the top and will continue to provide the best possible hospitality services and warmth to our fellow citizens with disabilities,” Papanikolaou said. The SEATRAC ramp is not a permanent installation and therefore can be removed in the end of summer, leaving the coastline at its original state.
