Event News ‘BlueFest Crete18’ Festival to Feature Greek Heritage and Art by GTP editing team 27 June 2018 written by GTP editing team 27 June 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 Agios Nikolaos, Crete Photo Source: Municipality of Agios Nikolaos The G & A Mamidakis Foundation is organizing the blueFest Crete18 | Culture & Beyond, a three-day festival scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 2 in Agios Nikolaos on the island of Crete. Held on the occasion of the designation of 2018 as the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the festival will include a number of events, from exhibitions and concerts, to theater performances and movie nights. “It aims at offering a ‘breath’ of culture and entertainment to the residents of Crete and the island’s visitors,” the organizer said in an announcement. “The blueFest Crete aims to link the rich cultural heritage of Greece with new and traditional forms of artistic expression.” The festival will open its doors on Saturday, June 30, with a party at the Ammos beach and the screening of “Mamma Mia! The Movie”. The second day of the festival will include the opening of an art exhibition titled, “4 Cents” On Show for 500 years” by Greek artist Georgia Kotretsos at the Minos Beach Art Hotel in Agios Nikolaos. The festival will wrap up on Monday, July 2, with the theatrical performance “Socrates NOW” at the Minos Beach Art Hotel. Performed by Emmy Award winner Yannis Simonides, it is based on “The Apology” and is an account of Socrates’ speech during a trial, in which he is charged with impiety to the gods and the corruption of the youth. The festival will be held with the support of the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos. Admission is free to all events. For more information (in Greek) press here.
