Volos Airport Welcomes New Flights, Set to Post Rise

Incoming traffic to Volos‘ Nea Aghialos Airport is set to rise by 25-30 percent this year in great part driven by new flights from the UK and Israel, according to airport authorities.  

The central Greece airport welcomed the debut in June of easyjet flights from Gatwick Airport which transported 354 passengers on its first two arrivals, with 220 departing for London on the same day and a third flight handling 173 arrivals and 131 departures.

Volos airport officials are optimistic, as flights from London to the port city are carried out on Airbus320 aircraft every Wednesday and Saturday, and in view of easyJet’s plans to increase London-Volos flights and include a Manchester-Volos itinerary next year.

According to airport chief Kostas Efstathiou, Volos and Central Greece residents are also very much interested in UK destinations, which explains the fully-booked flights. In this respect, the Athens News Agency reports that traffic at Volos Airport is set for a 25-30 recent rise.

Expected to contribute to the increase is the launch on July 16, of Cyprus-based TUS Airways‘ direct flight from Tel Aviv (Ben Gurion Airport) to Volos twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. The route will run through to mid-October.

Also serving Volos are TUI with direct flights to Brussels twice a week, Transavia with routes to Amsterdam and France, Austrian Airlines with itineraries to Vienna, Condor to Munich, and Enter Air to London.
