US-based hotel chain Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is set to open its second “Wyndham Grand” hotel in Greece on the island of Crete, moving ahead with renovation works on the Mirabello Hotel beginning in October, and opening to the public planned for the summer of 2019. The hotel chain had opened its first “Wyndham Grand” in Athens in 2016.

Wyndham teams up yet again with Zeus International, which will undertake the management of the resort, according to Greek news site newmoney.gr. Operating since 1971, Mirabello Beach is owned by the Mamidakis Group and includes the 176-room Mirabello Beach Hotel and the Mirabello Village with 115 bungalows, both in Agios Nikolaos.

Zeus International said it aims under its management to widen the customer base to include other markets besides the traditional ‘sea and sun’ segment.

The management of Wyndham has faith in Greece, with the group’s president and managing director for Europe, Middle East, Eurasia and Africa (EMEA), Dimitris Manikis expressing confidence in the long-term prospects of the country’s hospitality sector.

In July, Wyndham launched in Athens its first property operating under the “Wyndham Residence” hospitality concept in the world. An investment of 5 million euros, the 5-star Wyndham Athens Residence is also the chain’s seventh property in Greece.

Wyndham’s agreement with Ζeus International foresees collaboration on at least 20 hotel units in Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania, over the next 10 years.
