Greece’s Labor Inspection Body (SEPE) recently imposed fines worth over two million euros to businesses active in the tourism sector for violating the labor law.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Labor, SEPE inspectors in May and June carried out a total of 2,319 checks to businesses related to tourism on various destinations and islands.

During inspections, SEPE imposed 525 fines on tourism businesses for violating the labor law. The fines totaled to 2,282,312.61 million euros. Meanwhile, another 86 cases of violations are pending.

“SEPE will continue to carry out targeted inspections throughout the tourism season to effectively combat the phenomenon of undeclared and unpaid work,” the announcement said.

The ministry said that it will continue to take initiatives to ensure workers’ rights and reminded that employees can submit complaints by name or anonymously about violations of the labor law by calling 15512 or visiting local labor inspectorates.
