Wineries open for visitation will be awarded a special seal indicating that they abide by the set-out standards for the operation of wine tourism enterprises in Greece, following a joint decision by the tourism and agricultural development ministries published recently in the Government Gazette.

The Greek ministries of tourism and agriculture have re-assessed the terms and conditions for the regulated operation of enotourism enterprises in Greece, with the aim to enhance the quality of wine tourism services which in turn will offer travelers an incentive to visit new destinations and partake in special interest tourist experiences.

Under the new regulation, the certification procedure for the special seal of operations – dubbed “Winery Open to the Public” – has been updated. Interested parties must submit an application and the required documents and will within 28 days be issued a seal valid for five years.

In the meantime, entrepreneurs active in enotourism will be required to sign up on a yet-to-be-opened e-registry for such ventures, where all seal holders will be listed.

The new framework is meant to regulate the operation of enotourism businesses while protecting both producer and consumer.
