According to reports, the flight cuts come following the reintroduction of sanctions against the Islamic Republic by the United States. The airlines did not blame the return of US sanctions directly for their decisions to stop flying to Iran. In an announcement, British Airways said the London-Tehran route was “not commercially viable.” The last British Airways flight to Tehran will take place on September 22 and the last flight from the Iranian capital will operate the next day. According to a spokesman for Air France, the French carrier will stop flights from Paris to Tehran from September 18 because of “the line’s weak performance”. Moreover, Dutch carrier KLM also announced that it would stop flying there as of September 24. The airline said its decision was due to “negative results and financial outlook for the Tehran operation.” International press reports said that Germany’s Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines will continue to fly to Tehran “until further notice.” Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
