In efforts to avoid a potential backlash, the UK government published an updated guide this week with advice on how to address a series of issues that may arise in the case no agreement with the EU is achieved after Britain exits the EU on 30 March 2019.

The “how to” guide covers a series of subjects including VAT, financial services, life for UK citizens living in the EU, food and farming, pre-agreed upon EU funding for projects in infrastructure and science research, foreign study programs – indicatively, British students will not be eligible for the Erasmus university exchange program if there is no deal – UK participation in EU humanitarian contracts, trade dispute policy, changing state aid regulations, export of military items and imported medicines.

Precautionary measures include directions on stockpiling extra food and medicine.

In the meantime, the European Commission has called on Member States and private parties to intensify preparedness on all levels and for all outcomes of Brexit.
