Event News Meteora Natural History Museum to Host 4th Mushroom Festival in September by GTP editing team 29 August 2018 written by GTP editing team 29 August 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 14 The Natural History and Mushroom Museum of Meteora, located in Kalambaka, Thessaly, during September 7-9, will host the 4th Mushroom Festival with events focusing on mushroom species and delicacies. More specifically, the festival, which is taking place annually, will include a number of activities such as mushroom hunting on the mountain; the collection and identification of different species; seminars; programs for children; cultural events and culinary feasts with mushroom delicacies. “The museum aims to introduce its visitors to the world of mushrooms and to highlight their significance for nutrition and taste. Therefore, admission to all events is free,” an announcement said. The 4th Mushroom Festival is taking place with the support of local entrepreneurs, the Region of Thessaly, the Municipality of Greece, the Greek Mushroom Society and relevant associations in Thessaly, Epirus and Western Macedonia. The Natural History and Mushroom Museum opened its doors in 2014, and since then has attracted the interest of a large number of Greek and foreign visitors as well as international media. It consists of the Zoological Museum and the Mushroom Museum and features approximately 350 species of animals and 250 species of mushrooms. Truffle hunting in Meteora. Animals and mushrooms are presented in dioramas, which depict the natural terrain where they live and grow. Every year, the museum is organizing educational programs, seminars, activities related to mushrooms, events for children, as well as truffle hunting upon request in Meteora for groups and individual visitors. In 2017, the Museum was honored with the Certificate of Excellence by travel planning and booking site TripAdvisor.
