Television crews from South Africa and Italy are expected to visit Greece in September to film in popular tourism desinations such as the islands of Zakynthos and Kefallonia in the Ionian sea.

According to an announcement, attracting foreign TV and movie production companies to Greece has been a priority for the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura. Within this framework GNTO is currently supporting the productions of Italy’s Mediaset Rete 4 and South Africa’s SABC 3.

More specifically, an eight-member crew of Italian TV channel Rete 4, belonging to the Mediaset network, between September 11-23, will film on the islands of Lefkada, Meganissi, Kefallonia, Ithaki and Zakynthos on behalf of the “Donnavventura” reality show.

The trip was organized in collaboration with GNTO’s office in Italy and the Region of the Ionian Islands, and is expected to promote the area to 4 million TV viewers and to 1 million followers of the show on social media, on a weekly basis. According to the announcement, the TV show is broadcast every Sunday, at 2 pm, from January to April and then again from September to December.

In addition, Greece will be promoted in South Africa, through the episodes of the popular reality show “Tropika Island of Treasure”, which is broadcast on SABC 3- South African Broadcasting Corporation 3. A five-member crew will visit Greece in September to choose the location, where the show will be filmed in summer 2019.

GNTO, in collaboration with tourism professionals and local authorities, is organizing on average 200 familiarization trips annually, aiming to attract the interest of foreign production companies and thus promote Greece.
