Thessaloniki, Harokopio Universities Launch Post-grad Tourism Studies Programs

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki announced the launch of a postgraduate studies program for the 2018-2019 period in “Tourism and Local Development”, granting degrees in “Tourism and Regional Development”, “Environment and Sustainable Tourism”, and “Cultural-Religious Tourism”.

The curriculum will focus on the tourism business environment, innovative technology, practices and principles of sustainable development, local development through the use of ecosystems and natural resources, as well as intangible cultural heritage.

The three-semester program will be jointly run through the university’s faculties and schools of economics, political sciences, agriculture, forestry and natural environment, mechanical planning, theology and law.

The university aims through the program to provide a high level of specialized knowledge, promote basic and applied research and train future tourism professionals active in local development, regional development, spatial planning and law, sustainable tourism development and tourism tapping into the the natural environment and cultural-religious heritage.

In relevant news, Athens’ Harokopio University also announced 60 spots for its post-graduate program in “Sustainable Tourism Development: Cultural Heritage, Environment, Society”.

Jointly run with the University of Aegean and the University Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne, the program covers issues of sustainable tourism development and the promotion and management of cultural heritage.

Curriculum includes sustainable tourism development, culture and tourism, management and marketing of cultural heritage, development and management of tourist destinations, economy of tourism.

The 12-month program is broken down into two full-time semesters and includes theory, seminars and lectures. Studies are completed through internship and a thesis. All classes are in English.
