Pericles Lytras, president and professor of the Tourist Enterprises Department at the Athens Technological Educational Institute (TEI Athens), passed away at the age of 65, on Wednesday, August 29.

A well-known figure in the Greek tourism sector, Lytras was born in 1953 in Athens.

He was a Professor of Tourist Sociology and Tourist Psychology at the Department of Administration of Tourist Enterprises of TEI Athens.

He served as president of the Department (1994-1997, 2008-2010), Vice President (1998-2000, 2005-2006, 2010-2011) and Director of the Management and Economics School (1999-2000, 2003 -2006).

He also served as the Academic Director of TEI Athens for the Lifelong Learning Program: Educational and training opportunities for all; academic coordinator of the  LLP/Erasmus Program and examiner of the State Scholarships Foundation.

He was the author of 19 scientific books (11 on tourism); editor of two scientific journals on tourism, administration and economics; member of the Editorial Advisory Board of university scientific journals (e.x. “Tourismos”), and editor of collective books.

Lytras served as Vice President of the International Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers of Tourism; Vice President of the Mediterranean Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers of Tourism; President of the Greek Association of Journalists and Writers of Tourism, and Vice President of the Hellenic Society of Sport Psychology.

He has been awarded several times for his scientific, tourist, sport, editing and social contribution.
