Company updates Greece’s Sani Resort Says ‘No’ to Plastic Straws by GTP editing team 14 September 2018 written by GTP editing team 14 September 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 True to the principles of its social responsibility program, Halkidki’s Sani Resort announced plans to do away with plastic straws and replace them with the biodegradable variety. The action is one in a series being implemented under its Sani Green program running over the last five years which recently replaced plastic bags with biodegradable alternatives. Through the program, single-use plastic across the group’s operations has been reduced by 70 percent. The group’s Sani Green sustainability program is three-pronged focusing on hotel sustainability, protection of local biodiversity, and support of local communities and human resources. “The significant reduction of disposable plastics across the group’s operations also means ensuring better living conditions for the wildlife that coexists with local visitors, for the benefit of both. We may, unfortunately, live in a plastic world, but it is up to all of us to reverse the trend and at least to preserve our ‘own’ world at Sani as natural and wonderful as it deserves to be,” said Roula Trigou, Public Awareness Projects Coordinator at Hellenic Ornithological Society, who also cooperates with Sani Greece. Trigou referred to the significance of the action which extends beyond the hotel’s operations, protecting the forest and nearby wetlands area. Besides teaming up with the Hellenic Ornithological Society, Sani Resort is also working with the Arcturos Bear Sanctuary, the Halkidiki Animal Rescue and the Friends of Urban Green. For its sustainability programs, Sani Resort has been awarded the ISO 14001, Travelife Gold, Green Key and Blue Flag environmental certifications.
