Underwater Gallery on Amorgos Invites all to ‘Dive’ into Art

When free-diving meets art the result is a pioneering art exhibition taking place exclusively underwater in the Aegean sea.

An “Underwater Gallery” will open its doors during September 19-22, in a cave at a depth of 7-17 meters, near the area of Agios Pavlos and the port of Aegiali on the island of Amorgos.

Under the motto, “Dive into Art on a Single Breath”, Greek photographer Stefanos Kontos presents three collections titled Mythos (myth), Yphalos (reef) and Vythos (seabed), with photos taken underwater during 2013 and 2018.

The photos are printed on aluminum through a special technique and will be on display with the use of special underwater lighting.

In addition, all artwork will be placed in the cave with free-diving on a single breath.

The exhibition will take place within the framework of the Authentic Big Blue, the international free-diving event that – since 2017 – takes place annually on the island of Amorgos. Furthermore, the project is held under the auspices of the ministries of tourism and shipping.

Visitors can see the exhibition either by free-diving or scuba diving.
