Greece’s first theme park and museum dedicated to Greek mythology and the 12 Labors of Hercules was inaugurated on Friday in the northern city of Thessaloniki by Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura. The theme park opened its doors in September at the International Exhibition Center of Thessaloniki, under the production of TIF-Helexpo, Dream Workers and Ekcason Exhibitions, and the auspices of the Tourism Ministry. Located in the center’s pavilion 1 and on an area of 2,500 square meters, it presents the 12 tasks that the mythical hero Hercules completed over 12 years, when he was at the service of Eurystheus, the King of Tiryns. During her visit Elena Kountoura toured the facilities, spoke with visitors from Greece and abroad and congratulated the park’s executives as well as the education and creative team. Tasos Tzikas and Elena Kountoura “The park offers a truly unique experiential experience to children and adults, as well as to foreign visitors, who are initiated into the world of myths, heroes and legends – a part of Greece’s cultural identity – through education and entertainment,” she said. According to an announcement, the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) have been supporting and promoting such initiatives that enrich the Greek tourism product and contribute to Greece’s promotion globally as a top attractive 365 days a year destination. “I wish for this to be the beginning of the opening of other successful thematic parks in Greece… that will constitute a meeting point and attract foreign visitors who choose our beautiful country for their vacations,” Kountoura added. On behalf of TIF-Helexpo, President Tasos Tzikas said the company’s strategy includes the development of theme parks that offer entertainment as well as education to people of all ages.
