China has requested Greek know-how in assisted reproduction (AR) and reproductive medicine in efforts to boost declining birth rates after introducing the two-child policy in 2016. In this direction the Anhui University Hospital signed a memorandum of understanding with a group of AR experts in Greece, with the support of the International Health Tourism Council (IHCT) and World Institute of Greek Doctors. The agreement foresees the exchange of know-how on advanced methods in assisted reproduction and ways to combine traditional Chinese medicine with modern fertility treatments as well as the creation of a Reproduction Unit at a university hospital in China with the participation of Greek medical experts. Under the memorandum, the two countries will also cooperate on educational and training exchange programs. Moreover, the MoU is expected to boost the country’s fertility tourism numbers as it will pave the way for more incoming Chinese travelers in Greece seeking specialized treatments. “The two countries join forces to foster a common developmental perspective for the future… paving the way for incoming Chinese travelers seeking specialized treatments in Greece, which is a significant prospect,” said George Patoulis, IHCT and Athens Medical Association (ISA) president.
