Greece Boasts 21 Airlines with 485 Aircraft

There are currently 21 Greek airlines in operation with a fleet of 485 aircraft, according to the country’s civil aviation authority.

The largest are Aegean AirlinesOlympic Air, Heraklion-based Sky Express, Ellinair – owned by the Mouzenidis Group, and Thessaloniki-based Astra Airlines. 

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Administration (HCAA) has divided the airlines into two categories: those with planes of maximum take-off mass of over 10 tons and a capacity of more than 20 seats, and those under 10 tons with fewer than 20 seats.

There are currently 12 carriers in the first category and nine in the second.

According to the the HCAA, most of the airplanes are for private use.

In relevant aviation news, airline safety and product rating review website AirlineRatings.com has announced the world’s Top 10 airlines for 2018 which received a seven-star safety rating and demonstrate leadership in innovation for passenger comfort.

At the top of the list is Air New Zealand, followed by Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia, Virgin Atlantic, Etihad Airways, All Nippon Airways, Korean Air, Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines.

Out of 409 carries, the Top 20 in terms of safety are: Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia.
