The Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), and the Defense Ministry have agreed to cooperate in the area of sports after signing a memorandum of cooperation at the Faliro Sports Pavilion Arena on the sidelines of the Ergo Marathon Expo, which kicked off on Thursday, in the run-up to the Athens Marathon on Sunday.

Athens Marathon the Authentic logoAlternate Defense Minister Panagiotis Rigas and SEGAS President Kostas Panagopoulos signed the memorandum which foresees among others the Armed Forces’ back-up support during the Athens Marathon, as well as the knowhow on behalf of SEGAS for the development of the Military Marathon.

“The Defense Ministry has supported Athens Marathon organizers throughout  their efforts to get it off the ground with its valuable and enduring  contribution. Today, we have taken a step towards cementing this cooperation by signing the protocol of cooperation,” said Panagopoulos.

“The Athens Marathon is a bridge for peace, democracy and culture. The Armed Forces contribute to the staffing and logistics needs of the running race. This year, some 600 athletes – also members of the Armed Forces – will be participating in the Marathon. So it’s about time our cooperation with SEGAS moves to the next level,” said Minister Rigas.

The official Athens Authentic Marathon exhibition, the ERGO Marathon Expo features 150 exhibitors ahead of the massive sporting event and offers a great chance to find out more about the latest trends and do some shopping.

Opening hours: November 9-10: 10am-8pm.

“Athens Marathon. The Authentic” will be held on Sunday. The Greek Travel Pages (GTP) is a communication sponsor of the event.
