The announcement was made by ASTA President Zane Kerby during a special event recently held in Florida. Organized in collaboration with the Greek Tourism Ministry, the South Aegean Region and the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (FedHATTA), ASTA International Showcase is expected to host 400 US tour operators on Rhodes. “This is a first major step in our efforts to access the US tourism market. It is also a great opportunity to promote the tourism wealth of the South Aegean and the experiences offered at its destinations, covering the needs of US travelers,” South Aegean Vice Governor for Tourism, Culture and Sports Marietta Papavasiliou said. ASTA VP Robert Duglin; ASTA President Zane Kerby; Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura, and South Aegean Vice Governor for Tourism Marietta Papavasiliou. “The event will bring us closer to our target, which is to further increase tourism flows to destinations that already receive visitors from the US… Our islands offer everything American tourists seek from their vacation destination and more,” she added. During the event held in Florida, ASTA honored the Greek Tourism Ministry with the title “most supportive in the world for 2018”. Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura received the award. Also attending the ceremony was the head of the office of the Greek National Tourism Organization in the US and Canada Greta Kamaterou and some 400-ASTA member travel agencies. The ASTA meet on Rhodes follows the success of the 2018 ASTA Destination Expo, which was held in April in Athens.
