The Athens Riviera is the coastal area in the southern suburbs of Athens, Greece from Piraeus to Sounio. Scheduled to open in 2019, “The Alex” will become the Santikos Collection’s first city hotel and fifth property within the portfolio, joining the Marpunta Resort on the island of Alonnisos, the Santikos Mansion in Pelion and the Aegean Suites & Princess, both located on Skiathos. The property will house 34 rooms and suites offering far reaching views of the Athens Riviera and the Acropolis. There will be a cafe/bar area on the ground floor, and the property’s USP will be their rooftop bar & restaurant. Piraeus is one of the oldest parts of Attica and is currently going through a revival and surge in popularity. “We’re in the throes of creating a simple, yet luxurious, laid-back space that will attract a young professional, local and international audience,” Santikou said, adding that the hotel’s communal spaces will be lively and vibrant, while visitors can choose between cultural day trips to Athens, the National Museum of Contemporary Art or nearby islands such as Hydra and Spetses, which are located just one hour away by hydrofoil. The first of its kind, the $861m SNFCC was completed in 2016 and is a world-class cultural, educational and recreational urban complex. Located in the Stavros Niarchos Park, it includes new facilities for the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera and is one of the world’s most sustainable building complexes of its size.
