Sustainable tourism development is a key pillar of the United Nation’s “2030 Agenda” along with the 17 SDGs. “It is the third year that we present our sustainability initiatives and their results, which have set TEMES and Costa Navarino as prime examples of sustainable tourism development,” said TEMES SA Vice President and CEO Stephanos Theodoridis, adding that adapting to the 17 SDGs is the only option for global tourism. “We feel proud to have implemented a model that has had a positive impact on every aspect of our operation,” Theodoridis said. The Westin Resort, Costa Navarino Costa Navarino is one of the largest tourism projects in the Mediterranean. It covers an area of 2,471 acres (10,000 stremmas), which is divided into five tourism development sections and includes five-star hotels, signature golf courses, spas, conference centers and luxury residences. Castle of Methoni Since its establishment, TEMES has committed to respect the environment and the natural wealth of the region; support the local economy; promote culture, history and the area’s traditions. The group’s 2017 sustainability activities are also in line with the standards set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an independent international organization that has pioneered sustainability reporting since 1997, and the AA1000 AccountAbility Principles Standard, which is used by a broad spectrum of organizations – global businesses, private enterprises, governments and civil societies – to demonstrate leadership and performance in accountability, responsibility and sustainability.
