The results were revealed in the “OAG Punctuality League 2019” report, which tracks on-time performance for airlines and airports based on last year’s data.

“Hong Kong Airlines’ 2018 OTP rating of 88.11 percent is the result of ongoing efforts to improve its operational efficiency and strive towards service excellence,” the carrier said in an announcement.

“The airline operates out of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), one of the busiest hubs in the world and is proud to call the Midfield Concourse its home, where over 90 percent of its flights arrive and depart.”

In addition to operating from an excellent facility at HKIA, Hong Kong Airlines has continued to ensure flight information is shared timely with relevant parties. The data not only helps to improve the management of the airport’s parking bays but also provides Hong Kong Airlines with accurate and efficient bay assignments.

Hong Kong Airlines has a dedicated working group that monitors its OTP closely and looks into factors and causes of delay to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Last year, Hong Kong Airlines carried more than 7.64 million passengers to some 40 destinations around the world.

Over the Christmas and New Year holidays, Hong Kong Airlines operated more than 1,200 flights and carried over 240,000 passengers between December 22, 2018, and January 1, 2019.

In the coming Chinese New Year holidays, Hong Kong Airlines is expected to operate close to 1,080 flights and fly more than 224,000 passengers between February 1 and 10, representing a 4.2 percent increase in the number of passengers carried over the same period last year.
