Aiming to diversify its tourist offerings, Greece enhanced its presence at this year’s boot Düsseldorf International Boat and Watersports Show promoting a wide array of options available for sea and sports lovers.

Participating with two stands – one for sea tourism and another for diving tourism – under the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) umbrella, Greek exhibitors, among them companies active in surfing, scuba diving, sailing and boat making, showcased their products and were on hand to inform boot visitors about Greek destinations.

Jointly exhibiting this year with the GNTO were Crete, and the regions of the South Aegean and Ionian.

The event was attended on behalf of Greece, by Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Yiorgos Tziallas and Alternate Shipping Minister Nektarios Santorinios.

Referring to boot, Santorinios said it was time for the shipping and tourism   ministries to take initiatives that will bring sea and tourism entrepreneurs closer together in order to be able to provide a comprehensive tourist experience to Greek and international travelers, which will in turn create significant added value for the country.

On his part, Tziallas met with the head of Düsseldorf Airport, Michael Hanné, to discuss boosting air connectivity. Hanne proposed jointly organizing an event with the GNTO at ITB Berlin in view of the increasing number of Greece-bound flights from Düsseldorf.

On the sidelines of the exhibit, Greece also participated in the newly launched  Ocean Tribute Award, an initiative of the Prince Albert Foundation, the German Ocean Foundation and boot Düsseldorf, rewarding research into and development of innovative technologies with the potential to protect and preserve the world’s oceans in the future.

The world’s largest indoor exhibition of boats, yachts and water sports, boot 2019 attracted more than 250,000 visitors, bringing together some 2,000 exhibitors from 73 countries.
