Greek passenger shipping company Minoan Lines has installed an exhaust gas cleaning system (often referred to as scrubbers) on its Mykonos Palace cruise ferry.

Scrubbers are pollution control devices that are used to remove some particulates and/or gases from exhaust streams.

“Mykonos Palace is the first vessel in the Greek passenger shipping sector to install scrubbers,” the company’s management said in an announcement, after welcoming the ship to Crete on Wednesday.

Minoan Lines is upgrading its vessels on time to comply with the new International Maritime Organization (ΙΜΟ) Fuel Regulation – effective as of January 1, 2020.

The company is planning to complete the installation of scrubbers on its fleet by April 18. Therefore, it has amended its itineraries on the PiraeusChania and Piraeus-Heraklion routes for the next three months.

The company’s cruise ferries Knossos Palace, Festos Palace and Mykonos Palace will return to their scheduled itineraries as of Friday, April 19.
