Air Travel Passenger Traffic Through Greek Airports Up in Jan-Feb by GTP editing team 15 March 2019 written by GTP editing team 15 March 2019 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 20 Passenger traffic through Greece’s airports increased by 10.7 percent, or an additional 408,904 travelers, during the first two months of 2019, with the number of flights up by 11.3 percent compared to the same period in 2018, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) said on Thursday. According to the data, Greek airports handled a total of 4,237,786 travelers in the two-month period against 3,828,882 in 2018, and 42,972 flights – 25,274 domestic and 17,698 international – compared to 38,617 a year earlier. In the same month, 20,330 flights – up by 11.3 percent – were carried out in 2019, against 18,261 in February 2018. The country’s busiest airports in February were those of Athens handling 1,321,439 passengers, Thessaloniki (367,628), Heraklion (104,225), Chania (47,656), and Rhodes (46,307). In the meantime, according to HCAA data for the January-February period, Fraport-run Kefalonia Airport recorded the highest passenger traffic growth, marking a 61.7 percent increase and handling 6,062 passengers against 3,748 in the same period last year.
