Lufthansa announces new routes to Greece for 2019

Lufthansa Group’s airlines –Lufthansa, SWISS, Edelweiss and Brussels Airlines– carried approximately 2.7 million passengers to/from Greece in 2018, which is a record number compared to 2017, up by 18 percent.

“We have managed to achieve this record by adding new routes, increasing frequencies and offering upgraded services, a rich network, commitment and devotion to our guests,” said Lufthansa Passengers Sales General Manager for Greece and Cyprus Konstantinos Tzevelekos.

“We plan to further expand our services by increasing flight frequencies and adding new routes to popular destinations in Greece, aiming to support Greek tourism,” Tzevelekos added.

The Lufthansa Group has plans to add three new routes from/to the Greek islands this year, which are expected to increase capacity by 6 percent: Lufthansa in 2019 will be connecting Heraklio, Crete, with Frankfurt; SWISS will be flying from Mykonos to Geneva, and Edelweiss from Kalamata to Zurich.

Lufthansa Group’s growing network in Greece

Last year, the group’s airlines launched 12 new routes to Greece: Lufthansa is currently conducting flights from Santorini and Thessaloniki to Frankfurt; SWISS offers air connections between Kalamata and Geneva; Edelweiss connects Chania and Samos with Zurich, and Brussels Airlines flies from Corfu, Chania, Santorini, Kos, Zakynthos, Kalamata and Mykonos to Brussels.

Furthermore, the Lufthansa Group is connecting Greece’s capital Athens with its major hubs in Europe, with up to 97 flights on a weekly basis.

In Thessaloniki, Lufthansa has increased its flights to 23 per week, also offering daily routes to Frankfurt.

According to Lufthansa Group, Frankfurt and Munich were the most popular destinations for passengers from Greece in 2018, along with Zurich, Geneva, New York, Brussels, London, Amsterdam and Luxembourg.

Moreover, the Lufthansa Group has reached a milestone this year, celebrating 60 years of offering high-standard traveling experiences to its passengers. Among the group’s innovations is the FlyNet service which is available throughout the Lufthansa fleet, offering internet access to all passengers traveling to/from Greece.
