All the more holidaymakers from Poland are choosing to visit Greek destinations, with the number of incoming travelers rising on the back of a 40 percent increase in 2017, Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) officials said on occasion of the 100-year anniversary of Greece – Poland diplomatic ties celebrated in the Central Greece town of Karditsa.

The anniversary event, organized jointly by the tourism ministry and local authorities, was held at Plastira Lake near Karditsa, and included among others, promotional activities by the GNTO.

According to data presented, Greece is the first choice of travel for Polish nationals this year continuing last year’s momentum which saw more than 1 million visitors from Poland.

According to 2017 data, the most popular destination in Greece for Polish travelers was the island of Kos, followed by Zakynthos, Corfu, RhodesHeraklio and Chania on Crete.

Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura announced actions promoting Greece to the Polish market last year after meeting with the Ambassador of Poland to Greece Anna Barbarzak.

On occasion of the celebratory events, the GNTO and the Karditsa Development Agency with the support of AEGEAN Airlines organized a fam trip in the region for leading Polish tour operators, including Ιtaka, Grecos, Thomas Cook, TUI, and Ecco Holidays, as well as for travel and tourism media.

The trip was aimed at showcasing key destinations in the region, introducing year-round alternative tourism options as part of the national strategy to extend the tourism season, and bringing together tourism professionals seeking partnerships. The familiarization trip also included tours to archaeological sites and key points of interest as well as local food and spirit tasting events.
