Fraport Greece has been honored with the gold award at the Tourism Awards 2019 event, for the strategic upgrade of infrastructures at the 14 regional airports it has under its management. Held annually by Boussias Communications the event recognizes the best practices in Greece’s tourism sector. Fraport Greece was awarded for successfully implementing its investment program which, among others, includes the simultaneous expansion and renovation of the commercial spaces of its 14 airports throughout Greece. “These Greek airports are the entry points for millions of tourists visiting our country. Our vision is that they contribute to [the passengers’] positive travel experience and play a crucial role in the continuous improvement of the competitiveness of the Greek tourism market,” said George Vilos, Executive Director of Commercial and Business Development at Fraport Greece. According to an announcement, in just under two years, a large number of new outlets and restaurants have been developed at the airports, in line with Greece’s famous hospitality and service. By 2021, all commercial areas are expected to have tripled in space, exceeding 30,000 square meters. An impression of the Zakynthos airport. New restaurants and coffee shops are already in place focusing on local flavors, aiming to offer travelers “a last taste of Greece” before departing. Greek and international food and beverage chains are also operating. Furthermore, an extensive program to expand and upgrade all commercial shops is currently underway. Fraport Greece’s recently revamped airports include Zakynthos, Kavala and Chania, while the company is moving full speed ahead with upgrade projects at the facilities on Samos, Lesvos, Rhodes, Skiathos, Aktion and Kefalonia.
