Photo: GTP Traffic through Greece’s airports marked an 8.4 percent rise in the first four months of the year reaching 10,709,690 passengers – up by 828,990 – against 9,880,700 in 2018, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) said on Monday. Over the January-April 2019 period, Greek airports handled a total of 102,036 flights: 54,980 domestic and 47,056 international – recording an 8.2 percent rise compared to the corresponding period in 2018 at 94,297 flights. Photo Source: Civil Aviation Authority The busiest airports in Greece over the four-month period according to HCAA data were those of Aktio, which marked an 81.8 percent increase handling 7,861 passengers against 4,325 in the same months last year; Kefalonia up by 62.6 percent and 41,073 passengers; and Kos stronger by 44.3 percent and 121,297 travelers. In April, Greece’s airports welcomed 3,920,936 travelers up by 7.8 percent and 35,266 flights, an 8 percent rise against April 2018 with 32,661 flights. The number of international passengers in April grew by 14.8 percent to 1,463,552 against 1,275,063 a year earlier. April’s busiest Greek airports were in Athens (1.980.838), Thessaloniki (521.898), Heraklion (415.149), Rhodes (227.995), and Chania (167.925).
