With a long history dating back to 3000 BC, Afytos has managed to become a chapter of its own in Halkidiki, when considering its long tradition and rich culture all these decades.

A traditional village in the area of Kassandra, Afytos has gained a prestigious reputation thanks to its constant contribution to all kinds of fine arts, including local ancient monuments, stone architecture, folklore tradition, music festivities, sculpted masterpieces, poetry, hagiography and many others.

Today Afytos remains among the top preferences of prospective travelers as the destination offers an extraordinary variety of choices, including 5-star resorts, local dining choices, art museums (Αletras’ House since 1889), stone paved alleys for walks, historic churches since 1858 (Saint Demetrius), bicycle routes, Blue Flag awarded beaches and private excursion tours. The destination’s summer highlight is its famous music festival that takes place annualy by the sea and welcomes the participation of many of Greece’s finest artists.

“Our vision to promote a destination that will be a role model for all others is our prime target, though we cannot feel more than happy to have created higher standards for all locals and future travelers.”- Vasilis Kyritsis, Mayor of Kassandra, Halkidiki

During the last couple of years, the area’s local government has managed to achieve plenty of benefits and numerous success stories, which have contributed to the continuous evolution and development of Afytos village. These include quality synergies and investments that have boosted the average travel experience, attracting applause from leading international tourism companies, tour operators, travel specialists and journalists of top ranked portals and magazines.

Many implementations aimed at protecting local life standards in the village have been carried out in recent years and contributed greatly to an increase in arrivals, leaving its own mark on the destination: installation of high quality lightings along streets and routes, traffic signs and local information points, increase of green spaces, parking lots for visitors, numerous green bins for waste, extra ATM machines and preservation of monuments.

This is a wonderful part of Greece having visited many times. Disappointed you are telling everyone about it though! Even at high season the place is wonderfully relaxing, great little restaurants and coffee shops. Evening entertainment ranges from live music off the square to relaxed music bars with great views.
But it is the people who make this place so appealing. There are no loud sports bars, no Macdonalds just a great place.
