Tourism Minister Thanasis Theocharopoulos approved on Thursday, a concession agreement for the construction of a marina on the Dodecanese island of Leros.

The concession contract foresees the creation of a 73-berth marina at Alinda Bay to accommodate yachts and marine recreation vehicles.

“The project will give new impetus to growth and is considered to be of paramount importance to the region, professionals, and economic activity, attracting investors, while at the same time upgrading Greece’s position in the Eastern Mediterranean,” said the ministry in a statement.

Maritime tourism is high on the agenda of the Greek Tourism Ministry, according to Minister Theocharopoulos.

“Strengthening maritime tourism creates growth prospects with multiple benefits for the domestic economy not only through the upgrade of infrastructure and improved services but also by creating jobs,” the minister said while speaking this week at the 2019 Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum.
