The five-star Grand Forest Metsovo, located in Ioannina, was announced as Europe’s Leading Landmark Hotel at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Europe 2019 event held in Madeira. Established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry, the WTA brand is recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality and often referred to as the “Oscars” of the travel industry.. Open all year round and considered by many as a destination on its own, the Grand Forest Metsovo is located on top of a private mountain in the region of Epirus, a very impressive and unexplored part of Greece. At the WTA 2019, the Grand Forest Metsovo was up against over-the-top hotels such as Le Bristol Paris, France; Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, England; and Rocco Forte’s Hotel de Russie, Italy. The Grand Forest Metsovo stands on the fringe of a black pine forest and is luxurious in concept and services. It comprises of 8 buildings that are home to 62 suites, an atmospheric lounge, a restaurant, a multi-purpose hall with capacity up to 400 people and a cutting edge SPA with outdoor and indoor pools, which are scattered in different levels, showcasing local architectural styles with a contemporary twist. Metsovo, the hotel’s location, is a picturesque stone town full of history and tradition, filled with shops and small traditional restaurants.
