Ferry Strike in Greece on July 3

Greece’s passenger ferry service will be disrupted on Wednesday, July 3, as the Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has announced a 24-hour strike.

All ferries will remain docked at the country’s ports from 00:01 until 24:00.

The PNO decided to proceed with a strike after reviewing proposals by the Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships (SEEN) involving a new collective labor agreement for seamen. The federation deemed the proposals as “unsatisfactory”.

Travelers who have booked ferry tickets for July 3, are advised to check with their travel agents or contact local port authorities for further information.

Passengers whose trip is cancelled due to the strike are entitled to a full refund of their ticket. For additional information or queries, contact port authorities at the point of travel: Piraeus: 14944 – 14541 – 210-4172675; Rafina: 22940-28888; Lavrio: 22920-26589, 22920-25249, or EKPIZO on 210-3304444 or info@ekpizo.gr.

What is the best source for booking ferry travel online for less popular routes and destinations? We are travelling from Arkitsa to Edipsos on August 16th and need to find the appropriate booking agent. Thank you

Dear William, Thank you for your message. GTP is the only media publishing schedules for all ferry connections including small local ones.
You can see the schedules for your date here https://www.gtp.gr/RoutesResults.asp?SchDay=16&SchMonth=8&SchYear=2019&CompanyID=0,2&SortType=1,2&AroundDate=0&Origin=EGR1FT20DFFARK,5543,8&Destination=EGRHEV10EDIEDI,4932,8

The ferry company does not provide online booking. You should contact them directly for any questions. Here are their contact details: https://www.gtp.gr/TDirectoryDetails.asp?id=10414

Hope the above helps.
The GTP Team.

Hello Rachel.
An official announcement will be made if the strike is to be extended.
For now, it has been announced that all ferries will remain docked at the country’s ports on July 3 from 00:01 until 24:00.
However, we suggest that you also check with your travel agent or the local port authority.

Rachel, I’m on the same boat as you (Pun intented). I’m leaving for an island Thursday morning. I just called the ferry company and they informed me that the official announcement will be made around 2pm today. Fingers crossed. The lady on the phone said that more than likely they will stop the strike.
