Greek Airports Welcome 25.5m Travelers in H1 2019

Greek airports handled 25.5 million passengers in the first half of 2019, recording a 5.3 percent rise compared to the same period a year ago, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) said this week.

More specifically, over the January – June 2019 period, airports across Greece welcomed an additional 1.3 million travelers compared to H1 2018 at 24.2 million.

With regard to flights, a total of 221,538 – 96,664 domestic and 124.874 international) were carried out at the country’s airports, marking a 5.6 percent rise compared to 2018 at 209,831 flights.

In June this year, 8.47 million passengers went through Greek airports, a 4.8 percent increase with flights reaching 67,585, or stronger by 4.1 percent against the same month in 2018 at 64,899 flights.

International traffic was up by 4.3 percent to 3.48 million, compared to 2018 and 3.34 million arrivals.

The busiest airports in Greece for the month of June were: Athens (2,606,640 passengers), Heraklion (1,167,013), Rhodes (868,444), Thessaloniki (709,785) and Corfu (539,536 passengers).

For the first half of the year, the airport of Ioannina recorded the highest passenger traffic increase – up by 28.8 percent handling 59,655 passengers compared to 46,309 in H1 2018.
