Thomas Cook ready for ‘most active’ UK travel weekend

British tour operator Thomas Cook is ready to handle hundreds of vacationers with 46 flights to Greece over the July 19-21 weekend, with the island of Zakynthos standing among the top five busiest destinations.

According to Thomas Cook, July 19-21 is the “hottest” weekend of the year: 54,000 people are set to travel on 244 Thomas Cook Airlines flights out of the UK to 47 global destinations covering over 800,000 kilometers.

A total of 533 Thomas Cook pilots, 1,638 flight attendants and 600 staff members will be on hand to offer travelers the best services on the company’s airlines, and at its hotels and resorts this summer.

“The team in our operations control center will be working around the clock from our Manchester headquarters this weekend to manage our busy timetable, together with our on the ground teams at airports throughout the UK,” said Paul Hutchings, managing director of operations at Thomas Cook Group Airline.

Britain’s Big ‘Travel’ Exodus

According to the Association of British Travel Agents’ (ABTA), an estimated two million UK passengers are set to travel by plane over the weekend, a day after schools closed for summer break. At the same time, travel experts are noting that the UK pound to euro exchange rate is a positive factor for EU tourism.

“Good temperatures and sunshine are guaranteed at all our favorite hotspots around the Mediterranean and ABTA advice is to slap on the sun cream and copy the locals by heading for a long, leisurely lunch when the sun is at its strongest,” said ABTA Chief Executive, Mark Tanzer.

Top holiday choices for the Brits this summer, according to ABTA, are Spain, the most popular holiday destination for 2019, the Canary Islands, Italy’s Amalfi Coast and the Greek islands.
