The first routes have already been made,” the ministry said in an announcement on Wednesday. The ministry is now exploring ways to completely replace the elevator, which is counting its 15th year of age. Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni on Monday carried out an on-site check at the area of the elevator at the Acropolis and was accompanied by officials and a representative of the company responsible for the elevator’s installation and maintenance. According to the ministry, the elevator’s current mechanism has aged following 15 years of continuous operation and is in need of replacement. Moreover, the elevator currently isunable to service electric wheelchairs as its maximum weight for lifting is limited. The external elevator, which is located some 350 meters from the main entrance of the archaeological site, was installed on the occasion of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 for visitors for visitors with disabilities and reduced mobility.
