Travel giant TUI has confidence in Greece as a tourism destination and is interested in further developing its presence in the Greek market, the company’s CEO, Fritz Joussen, recently informed the country’s tourism minister, Haris Theoharis.

Greece ranks among TUI’s two most important destinations for travel in 2019.

During a meeting at the Tourism Ministry in Athens, Joussen and the minister agreed to cooperate on actions to attract “last-minute” tourists and support the visitor flow for the coming year.

Active in the Greek market for more than 40 years, TUI has carried out important investment projects, with emphasis on thematic tourism. The company is currently in the process of increasing its portfolio of own hotel brands and concepts in Greece and now has a total of 49 units, after having added six new hotel units alone this year. Next year, a new Robinson Club will be opened in Ierapetra on Crete.

“Greece is in the core of TUI’s growth strategy,” Joussen said.

On his part, Minister Theoharis informed Joussen on the government’s new outlook on Greek tourism, which includes a series of actions included in a 10-year strategic plan being prepared and expected to be announced in six months.

He also informed that Greece will invest in further tourism infrastructure to boost the development of specialized travel packages, targeted tourism services and other specialized activities that TUI can be a part of.

TUI expects to bring more than 3 million customers to the country this year from all across Europe.
