The Tipping Point (TTP) in collaboration with the G & A Mamidakis Foundation recently held an educational program on Crete for students wishing to explore the potential of pursuing a career in tourism.

TTP’s mission is to empower today’s youth to consciously take their most critical once-in-a-lifetime decisions, also preparing them for the workplace of tomorrow.

Its initiative, dubbed “Connecting schools of Crete with the world of tourism”, brought together – through live video calls – experienced tourism professionals with students of seven schools from the areas of Lasithi, Rethymno and Chania. The main topics of discussion focused on the ways Cretan tradition connects with tourism, how hotels operate, defining fishing tourism and more.

Meanwhile, senior executives of bluegr Hotels & Resorts and LoveGreece.com formed a community of 31 mentors representing key sectors – including agriculture, entrepreneurship and folk art – and shared their experience with the students, answered questions and offered their expert opinions on the opportunities offered in the tourism sector.

According to the G & A Mamidakis Foundation , the students and teachers found the initiative was of great significance, since tourism is a key sector of the island’s economy and many young people think of pursing a career in tourism.

The G & A Mamidakis Foundation supports educational actions and training initiatives that promote Greece’s cultural wealth, link tourism with culture, protect the environment and support its human capital.
