Located some 2.5km from Chios town and 6km from the airport, the marina was constructed in 1990. Under the upgrades foreseen in the agreement, the 80,000m2 harbor will be able to handle at least 180 recreational craft.

Marina Chios SA has agreed over the next four years to implement a series of investments aimed at modernizing the marina so as to make it operational and at the same time contribute to the wider region.

Plans include the construction of building infrastructure as well as the upgrade of the road network, port entrance, and parking area. Fully developed, the marina will provide 180 berths for recreational vessels and up to 6,900m2 of indoor facilities for tourism-leisure purposes.

“Attracting investments for [upgrades] of Greek marinas contributes decisively to the image of entire areas and strengthens Greece’s tourist industry,” said Xenofos, referring also to the benefits for locale creation of 1 communities.

Citing studies, Xenofos said that besides contributing to the economy and employment, 4.4 direct jobs and 100 indirect positions are created for every 100 berths.
