Air Travel Greek Air Passenger Traffic Up 4.7% in January-July by GTP editing team 14 August 2019 written by GTP editing team 14 August 2019 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 22 Photo © GTP Passenger traffic through Greece’s airports posted an increase of 4.7 percent year-on-year during the January-July 2019 period, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) recently announced. During the first seven months of the year, 35.52 million people passed through the country’s airports, up from 33.92 million in 2018. The total number of flights at Greek airports during the January-July period reached 298,910 (of which 176.962 were international flights), up 4.7 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2018. In July alone, 9.98 million passengers passed through Greek airports, a total increase of 3.1 percent compared to the same month last year. The total number of flights at Greek airports in July was 77.303, up 2.1 percent compared to the same month in 2018. Greece’s international arrivals in July surpassed 4 million, presenting a 3.5 percent increase compared to the same month last year. The airports of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu received the most passengers in July, according to the HCAA. Last month, Athens’ airport welcomed 2.96 million passengers, Heraklion’s passenger traffic amounted to 1.38 million, over one million passengers passed through Rhodes’ airport, Thessaloniki’s airport welcomed 800,269 passengers and 654,985 arrived at Corfu’s airport. In the meantime, according to HCAA data for the January-July period, the airport of Ioannina recorded the highest passenger traffic growth out of all of Greece’s airports, marking a 29.9 percent increase and handling 76,959 passengers against 59,241 in the same period last year.
