Photo source: discovergreece.com The demand for holidays in Greece by the Germans weakened slightly in July following strong growth in June, according to the latest monthly package holiday booking figures from Amadeus. Released recently by fvw, the data showed the booking trends for last-minute summer holidays at ten of the most popular destinations for German holidaymakers. Demand for Turkey and Egypt on the top According to Amadeus, demand for individual destinations was on the up, with Antalya in Turkey, seeing a 10 percent increase in bookings; Hurghada in Egypt recording an 11 percent rise in demand; and Marsa Alam in Egypt showing an improvement in bookings. Meanwhile, two of Greece’s biggest destinations for German holidaymakers, Heraklion and Rhodes, saw a slight decline in demand in July, compared to last year, as bookings showed a 6 percent and 5 percent drop respectively. In June, demand for both destinations was over 10 percent compared to June 2017. On the other hand, German bookings for Kos soared with a 21 percent increase, following the positive booking trend of June (up by 24.5 percent). Kos, Greece. In regards to German bookings to Spain, Amadeus’ data showed a 10 percent drop at Palma last month, while the Canary Islands saw bookings take a double-digit drop. German booking in Fuerteventura decreased by 25 percent, in Las Palmas by 18 percent and in southern Tenerife by 17 percent. Overall, demand for the top ten most popular destinations for the Germans, which accounts for some two-thirds of bookings from Germany, dropped 1.6 percent compared to the same month last year.
